As a financial services business, we are committed to creating good outcomes for all our customers. Treating customers fairly is at the very heart of everything we do. We aim to ensure that the same ethos is true for our team.

In the run up to International Women’s Day on March 8th, I realised that this year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity. We can always be better at everything, but equity, defined as the quality of being fair and impartial, is a principle that is deeply embedded in our culture. I want to think we are ahead of the curve, but I will never take this for granted.

In the push to ensure 30% of leadership teams are made up of women, we are nearly there, and my Senior Leadership Team colleagues, Becky and Lynn, have both gained recognition over the last year;

  • Becky Letman, Head of Operations, won the Outstanding Leader of the Year – Operations at the 2022 Leadership Awards.
  • Lynn Reid, Head of IT, was recognised at the Credit and Collection Technology Awards as the Technology Innovator – Person of the Year.

I was thrilled by their successes and the role models that they both represent.

Both have built careers that see them as integral members of our leadership team. I am delighted to have their talents in our business, but I am sure they will join me in recognising that equity is something we need to extend to people from all walks of life. Regardless of background, we want the very best talent to grow their careers with our business.

International Women’s Day represents a vital siren call and a chance to take stock of progress. We will be doing it because the benefits we have seen are significant. With the potential we see from our philosophy of continuous improvement, things can always be even better.
